Don’t Miss This Tokyo Experience: A Cafe Full of Cats

Cat Room Korune is just a short walk down the Nakadori Shopping Street from the south exit of Ogikubo Station (accessible by both JR lines and Tokyo Metro lines) making it an easy stop for any cat lover. No wonder it has been in business over 10 years since 2008. If you are a cat lover visiting the great city of Tokyo, a unique experience is visiting a cat cafe, where surely the cats are the attraction more than the food and drink! At Korune there are simple beverages available for 200 yen, and even a large collection of manga for reading while there, plus a TV with Playstation 4, but of course if you are going to spend 500 yen per half hour at Korune, you must be there for the cats.

There are 11 healthy male cats of various types hanging out for petting and playing (as of December 2016). Some customers even just cuddle up with the furry felines and take literal “cat naps”! You can do the same– but be sure to set your alarm so the bill doesn’t run too high! You can pick up the cats but it is important to be gentle with them at all times. Many of the cats are so used to people that they may seem uninterested, but those cats can be easily persuaded with cat treats, available for 200 yen but occasionally given by the friendly owner if you’re there at the right time.

*NOTICE: All customers must take off their shoes before entering the cat room, and washing hands is required before and after touching the cats.
