NAKADORI SHOTENGAI

Pass Through the Clock Arch and Pass the Time Ogikubo Style
[updated August 2022]

Looking for fresh produce? How about Korean Food, Meat Barbecue, or Turkish Kebab? Fashionable clothing and bags? Chinese, Ramen or gyoza? Or maybe just a stroll down a shopping street to get an idea of what the scenery is like in a unique part of Tokyo removed from the downtown turmoil….

Nakadori Shotengai in Ogikubo has you covered for these things and more. Definitely a great place to find something to eat like ramen and other Chinese, Korean, Indian/Nepalese curry, pizza, or the famous European stew and curry restaurant, Tomato, but also a place for regular shopping or souvenir shopping. You’ll find some cafes and coffee shops that allow for a relaxing location to chill out while enjoying the local Tokyo atmosphere. There are also some very one-of-a-kind shops on the street, for example, a Japanese Umeboshi shop. If you enjoy the sour kick of the Japanese pickled plum umeboshi, the shop on this street is a must-visit! Even if you don’t feel like spending your yen, Nakadori shopping street offers an up-close view of Suginami local lifestyle. Follow the street to the Zenpukuji River, and continue your walk along the river if you want to walk further. You may see some interesting birds, and if you are really enjoying your walk you could go all the way to Zenpukuji River Park, perfect in cherry blossom season.
