NIMAN DENATSU

The Legendary Koenji Venue is a Phoenix
[updated August 2024]

After the legendary Koenji 20000V (“Niman volt”) was damaged in a fire, like a phoenix the legend rose from the ashes and was re-opened in its new location in 2009. Niman Denatsu (Japanese for “20,000 volts”) still remains worthy of its name– this system is LOUD! Specializing in punk, noise, avant-garde, alternative, and metal etc., this is what the Koenji underground scene is all about. Visually and musically exciting S.V.K. (shown) is just one of many unique up-and-coming bands to play at Niman Denatsu. The bar features a wide variety of drinks (alcohol 500 yen, soft drinks 300) and the size is just right– about 50+ people make a good crowd here, and the sound is immense!
