Feel the Groove in the Spice

Curry Bar Shubell in Nishi-Ogikubo was opened by a musician, and he believes that both making curry and composing music have common features. He says, in his own unique expression, that the yellowish brown onion is the rhythm while spice works in similar way to how an effects pedal would change the timbre of an electric guitar. In a sense the spice “distorts” the taste of the ingredients it is used on. Popular here at Shubell are Garbanzo Beans and Oyamadori Chicken Curry, in which Oyamadori chicken wings are boiled with 21 kinds of spices until becoming pulpy. He says, “I want you to feel music while you eat it.”
