REPLACE RECORDS (New! 7/3)

A Must-visit Music Gem in Nishi-Ogikubo

New to the Nishi-Ogikubo area, Replace Records is quickly becoming an essential stop on the record store circuit of Suginami, Tokyo. Despite its modest size, this shop stands out for its impeccable style and charm. Housed in what was once a bonsai shop, it retains much of the traditional Japanese ambiance, creating a unique and inviting atmosphere for vinyl enthusiasts.

Opened by Mr. Kojima in April 2023, Replace Records has been steadily expanding its collection. The shop offers a wide range of vinyl, with many reasonably priced records, around the 1200 yen range. However, if you’re on the hunt for rare or highly sought-after albums, be prepared to spend a bit more. The selection is curated to cater to all tastes, making it a well-rounded destination for music lovers. The shop’s name, Replace Records, is inspired by the owner’s admiration for The Replacements, the rock band from Minneapolis, and while there’s a strong alternative and punk influence, the collection spans multiple genres.

The interior of Replace Records is a blend of old and new, with records displayed in wooden wine crates, adding to the shop’s natural harmony. All the quirky, music related memorabilia alongside the stone slab floor, bamboo and rock garden create a really unique and inviting atmosphere that makes it actually a little difficult to leave.

For those wanting to sample new sounds before purchasing, a turntable is available to give curious records a spin. Additionally, Replace Records is committed to buying used records at fair prices, so feel free to bring in your own collection for sale or trade.

With its charming ambiance, diverse selection, and welcoming vibe, Replace Records is a must-visit for any vinyl lover in Nishi-Ogikubo. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting your vinyl journey, this shop offers a unique experience.
