USAGIYA
Selling Up To 1000 Dorayaki a Day
[updated August 2022]
Usagiya is a long-standing Japanese sweets shop established in 1957 in Asagaya. Their specialty is a bean-jam pancake, dorayaki (200 yen), great for a souvenir. It has a beautiful evenly colored surface and the balance between modestly-sweetened bean-jam and pancake containing honey is exquisite. They have been known to sell more than 1,000 a day! Be quick, or they may sell out by the afternoon!
They carry many varieties of Japanese sweets, which vary with the season. Mitsumame (boiled beans, gelatin cubes and mochi (rice cake) cubes with sweet black syrup, 350 yen) and other Japanese treats are highly recommended. As the shop’s advertisement can be seen from the train, Usagiya is located only 2 minutes from Asagaya station. When you go you can buy souvenirs, or eat-in and enjoy your sweets in the traditional manner– alongside the perfect brew of Japanese tea. In summer you’ll find it hard to resist their kaki-gori shaved ice with flavored syrup.
