POTTER CAFE (Update 7/8)
A Relaxing Space for Art and Comfort Food
[updated July 2025]
Potter Café is a quaint space in Koenji, Tokyo where you can enjoy some comforting dishes and drinks while also viewing art, or even making some art! On the second floor and just a short 3-minute walk from the north exit of JR Koenji Station (JC07/JB06), this café serves delightful dishes ranging from the “stewed hamburg-steak set” (1200 yen) and pizza toast (750 yen) to a monthly-changing special quiche plate (1100 yen). They also have a variety of teas, soft drinks, and beer as well as a delectable selection of sweets, so you can enjoy a full meal or just a snack or a drink.
Before or after you enjoy food and drink at Potter Café, you should absolutely take a look at their selection of art in their gallery, often colorful and playful. Different artists are often featured with some fun items available for purchase. And if you want to try your own hand at making some art, Potter Café is named after “Pottery”, as they make original pottery there. You can take a painting class to paint the pottery such as plates, mugs, or figurines. The class is usually available to reserve for 4300 to 5000 yen. (You can make a reservation for the class here (external link)). If you go to make art or just look at the art, one drink order is required. Last orders are by 6:00pm, so you must enter the café by 6:00pm at the latest.
*Please note the following before joining pottery classes or events:
Pottery classes are only taught in Japanese, though there are some written instructions available in English. Also, pottery takes 3 weeks to complete after it has been painted, and it can’t be sent overseas, so if you join a pottery painting class, be sure to be in Japan 3 weeks later to pick it up.
