NISHIOGI CHASAMPO
Sip, Stroll, and Explore the Heart of Nishi-Ogikubo
[updated February 2025]
Every November, Nishi-Ogikubo transforms into a tea lover’s paradise for the Nishiogi Chasampo (西荻茶散歩), or “Tea Walk.” Launched in 2009 by four local galleries along Kita-Ginza Street, this beloved community event started as a small hospitality project to help visitors discover and fall in love with Nishi-Ogikubo.
Now, Chasampo has grown into a cultural festival of tea, art, and exploration, with over 50 participating galleries, specialty stores, and cafes welcoming more than 2,000 visitors.
Nishiogi Chasampo until recent years was usually held in early June, but recently it’s being held in mid-November. The event typically runs from 11:00am – 6:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.
How It Works
Participants follow the trail of tea kettles displayed in front of participating shops, guiding them to free tea tastings, special perks, and interactive experiences. Be sure to pick up a map available at JR Nishi-Ogikubo Station or any of the participating shops as well.
– At “Chasampo Tea Shops”, you can enjoy complimentary tea at these some 30+ locations, each offering carefully curated varieties, including cold-brew specialty teas, matcha (powdered green tea), herbal infusions and others.
– At “Chasampo Food & Service Shops”, these restaurants and service providers offer exclusive perks, such as special discounts and limited-time menu items, as well as complimentary dishes with the event map.
– “Workshops & Activities” go beyond tea tasting, featuring interactive experiences (mostly craft-based).
With so many ways to explore, Chasampo isn’t just about tea—it’s about discovering the creativity and warmth of Nishi-Ogikubo. Nishi-Ogikubo is known for its independent, creative spirit, featuring vintage shops, antique stores, artisan cafes, and a thriving local community. Chasampo offers a perfect way to experience this unique neighborhood, where you can support small businesses, discover hidden gems, and enjoy a slow-paced, cultural adventure in one of Tokyo’s most charming districts.
Whether you’re a tea enthusiast, an art lover, or simply looking for a relaxing autumn stroll, Nishiogi Chasampo promises a memorable and heartwarming experience.
