JIYUJIN SAKABA
“Bar of the Free-Spirited People”

At Jiyujin Sakaba (literally “Bar of the Free-Spirited People”) near Koenji Station you will find a laid back atmosphere in a cozy local izakaya bar which owner Yasuhiro-san has chosen to decorate with hanging backpacks and very cool anime painted skateboards. While you delight yourself with delicious Psyche Delhi-san curry, you might catch some freestyle live music and stand up comedy. You are also free to get up and contribute with your own voice or instrumental skills if you desire to do so. And if you want to get a taste of Japanese radio, J-Wave, one of Tokyo’s most popular radio stations, features a show called Groove Line that is Yasu-san’s favorite so he plays it on a regular basis. In short, this is definitely a welcoming place to experience a cool Japanese-style hang-out.
