ZENPUKUJI-GAWA GREEN PARK

River-side Relaxation and Spring Cherry Blossom Viewing

Zenpukuji-Gawa Green Park (“Zenpukuji Ryokuchi” 善福寺川緑地 in Japanese) is situated in the south part of Suginami and is the largest park area in Suginami ward. There are ball parks and tennis courts, and people enjoy jogging, taking their dogs for a walk and family picnics. The park is a great place for relaxation and refreshment for Suginami residents.

Although the riverside park is enjoyable all year round, it is particularly known for its cherry blossoms in spring. As a matter of fact, this park is considered one of Tokyo’s best sites for cherry blossom viewing west of the Yamanote Line. For 1.5 kilometers along the Zenpukuji River, four hundred cherry trees open their blossoms in late March/early April (depending on the year), and they are beyond words! From the south exit of Asagaya Station on the Chuo line, for only 100 yen you can go to the park by the “Sugimaru” community bus. You can also walk there via side streets from Minami-Asagaya Station, but it is not a straight route. If you are looking to spend time cherry blossom viewing by taking a stroll, having a picnic, or taking photos, this is the place for you.
