Although Tenka Ippin is actually a chain ramen shop originally from Kyoto now with over 240 locations in Japan and even Honolulu, the Koenji restaurant is something special as it is said to be very similar to the original Kyoto shop founded in 1971. Tenka Ippin’s specialty is surely their chicken broth with its rich flavor thoroughly combined with more than 10 kinds of vegetables. The key word is kotteri, meaning “heavy” or “rich” in Japanese. However, if kotteri is not your style, they also have some assari (light) options.
Perhaps one of the advantages in Tenka Ippin’s restaurant style, as opposed to a small independent ramen shop, is its large menu and spacious interior. Here you’ll find a complete side menu, featuring popular options such as Chinese-style fried rice and gyoza dumplings, karage Japanese-style fried chicken, seasoned egg, and more. The restaurant is spacious with a total of 39 seats and tables big enough for groups of 6, and open very late, also making it very user-friendly and great place to satisfy hunger after drinking at Koenji Street or seeing a show at a Koenji rock club.
