TOYOKIYA

Traditional Festival Goods For Your Souvenirs and Curiosity
[updated September 2022]

Run by a local shop-owner and an expert on Awa-Odori matters, Toyokiya is dedicated almost solely to supplying Awa-Odori accessories and instruments to the professional dancer groups (ren) that fill the streets of Koenji come the end of August. Awa-Odori is one of the biggest and most well-known summer festivals in Tokyo. The gear available at Toyokiya is not exclusive for professionals and you are more than welcome to choose from the wide range of products including the taiko drums, the kane bell, and the traditional tabi (two-toed socks), among many other goods.  Toyokiya is conveniently located a 2-minute walk south from JR Koenji Station along Pal Street, Koenji’s covered shopping street. And although the store keeps busy, the owner Kawahara-san will make sure you have what you need to dance along with the locals.
