CHADOKORO TSUKIJI

Friendly Staff Assisted Tea Selection
[Updated April 2026]

Chadokoro Tukiji is a tea shop located two minutes from Koenji station. The staff and the shop manager are very welcoming as they speak English, and they will let you try many samples. In particular their recommended tea, Sencha, a deep steamed green tea from Shizuoka, is one of the best quality Japanese green teas. It’s very delicious both hot and as a cold, refreshing drink on hot and humid summer days.

Here you can find many kinds of green tea, which is believed to offer various benefits for both health and beauty. The lineup at the shop changes every day so every visit there is interesting. One of the popular teas sold, are the ones with packages that feature the Koenji Awa-Odori, while other have playful names such as ‘Okome-cha’ or ‘Makenai-cha’. In Japanese, ‘cha’ has the meaning tea, ‘Okome’ means rice, and ‘Makenai’ means ‘won’t lose’; giving these names a fun and creative twist.

The staff will give you helpful advice about brewing tea, such as the correct temperature and timing. Moreover, you will have the possibility to choose among many nice packaging styles for your special souvenir to bring back home. The kindness of the staff, the variety of teas and souvenir packaging make this shop worth a visit, whether you are a tea lover or not.
