East Meets Mex at “Carnívoro el Cielo” (Carnivore’s Heaven)

On the north side of Asagaya on Kyu-Nakasugi Dori shopping street lies a cozy little bar dedicated to bringing Tokyo a healthy helping of Tex-Mex meat centered dishes to feed your carnivorous craving. Vegetarians enter at your own risk (though there are a few dishes suitable for vegetarians).

The owner is originally from Sendai in the Tohoku region of Japan but spent time cooking in California. Thus all the meat served is from Sendai. Of particular note are the fatty Wagyu beef dishes such as roast beef and Mexican Beef Steak topped with guacamole and salsa. The husband and wife team also serve other grilled, cold and cured meat dishes, rice dishes, salads like the Coriander Spicy Beef salad, sandwiches including burritos and burgers, deep-fried foods, finger foods, side dishes, and Hokkaido sourced frozen yogurt bars. The drink menu is equally unique with drinks like Coriander Sour and frozen or Jelly Lemon sour. You can also expect other libations such as international beers, tequila, mojitos, wines, traditional cocktails, shochu base drinks, marinated and frozen sours, highballs, soft drinks and even ice cream floats, all at reasonable prices. The menu changes often for a different culinary experience. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, not only because of the Cal-Mex decor, but also due to the dedicated staff and regular customers who provide a homey feeling. This is the beauty of local areas like Asagaya; you get a warm welcome and a unique offering the chain restaurants cannot deliver.
