ATARA-C-HITO

One-of-a-Kind Street Fashion Kimono and Vintage Bargains
[updated May 2020]

Atara-C-Hito is a shop that has caught the attention of many vintage hunters and TV programs due to its unique style and items. Different from other vintage stores in Koenji, you can find not only unique street fashion clothes but also old-fashioned tableware, small decorations, type writers and more. Many items are collected from different parts of Japan and the world, so the styles here are limitless. Old records also give off a Koenji-vibe, if you are in search of old Japanese pop song. If your living space is missing something, you just might find it here. Who knows, you might even walk out a new person! (“Atara-C” (atarashii) means “new” and “Hito” means person)

Another thing that sets Atara-C-Hito apart from just about any other shop in Japan is that customers are able to bargain the prices. Here, they use their own currency called “Koiken”, which is an exchange coupon. 1 koiken equals 100 yen. Items range from 1 koiken up to 1000 koiken. In order to get koiken, customers can sell their own vintage goods in exchange for the coupons… of course, yen may also be used. This system is typically rare in Japan where you can haggle for a deal, so if you are good at bargaining, you may want to try to score some treasures from Atara-C-Hito.
